It does not matter where you are at in your business, whether you are just starting out or already in business for years, there is this constant pull for growth and improvement in your heart.
It may look different, depending on where you are at:
• If you are opening a new company, your focus will be on getting a regular flow of clients and smoothing out your cash flow.
• Later on your focus will be on building momentum, so you can start serving more people with your expertise.
• The next phase is usually that of creating leverage, so that you can expand even more, without investing more time in your business.
But the struggles for expansion are always the same. Every time a woman feels that nudge to grow in her business, she will go through the following three phases before being able to step up into her next level of impact and income:
Once you know you will ALWAYS be going through these different stages when God is nudging you to grow in your business, you will understand that your struggles are just necessary growing pains and you will be better prepared to make the transition successfully.
Here is a brief explanation of each stage and how to cope in each one of them:
Awareness: Enlarge the place of your tent
Enlarge the place of your tent,
And let them stretch out the curtains of your dwellings;
Do not spare;
Lengthen your cords,
And strengthen your stakes.
For you shall expand to the right and to the left,
And your descendants will inherit the nations,
And make the desolate cities inhabited.
(Isaiah 54: 2,3)
The call is on! The Holy Spirit is whispering to your heart, and gently nudging you: “It’s time to move on, to dare more, to step into new and exciting things I have prepared for you!”
You, however, are probably not that excited at all. You might even feel stuck and unsatisfied with your current activities. You won’t like your routine anymore and you will start feeling the need for change.
In this stage a lot of feelings come up. It will be a mixture of excitement and sheer terror.
You might find yourself asking:
• Can I really do this?
• What will happen with…(fill the blank: present clients, my income, team members, family members, etc.)
• What will others think?
You are aware that change is coming and you are trying to wrap your head around what that will look like.
Permission: Do not fear, for you will not be ashamed
Do not fear, for you will not be ashamed;
Neither be disgraced, for you will not be put to shame;
For your Maker is your husband,
The Lord of hosts is His name;
And your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel;
He is called the God of the whole earth.
(Isaiah 54: 4,5)
In the awareness stage, a lot of conflicting thoughts were going through your mind.
And that is exactly where you need to confront this new challenge, so you can give yourself permission to step into your next level of business confidently!
The best thing to do here is to reconnect with the vision God put in your heart in the first place. It probably overwhelmed you back then, and you might even feel it was impossible to achieve, so you settled for less in your business and life.
But God is stair stepping your business towards that vision and this next season is just that: the next step to reach the desires He put in your heart!
This is where you want to be asking yourself:
• What if I could pull this off?
• How do I look like and who am I in the vision for my business?
• What would I need to believe to make it happen?
Dear businesswoman, you are not alone. Answer these questions in prayer and reach out for God’s comfort and guidance for this next phase. Give yourself permission to grow and fully trust that God is on your side, leading you in every step!
But My kindness shall not depart from you,
Nor shall My covenant of peace be removed.
(Isaiah 54: 10)
The plan: Go out with joy!
For you shall go out with joy,
And be led out with peace;
(Isaiah 55: 12)
Once you have given yourself permission to step up, you are ready to start planning! You feel excited, your mind is soaring with ideas and you can’t wait to start!
At this stage you will want to ask yourself:
• What decisions do I need to make?
• What is the exact breakthrough I want to create?
• What are the next steps?
• What do I need to let go of to make this happen?
