I don’t know any businesswoman who is a coach, consultant or other service professional who has not struggled with her marketing. Getting visibility is a huge issue in any service-based business, especially when you are just starting out and quickly need to position yourself.
Most people are afraid of rejection when it comes to marketing and selling their products and services. It can be especially tricky for Christians, because the idea of self-promotion goes against what most of them are taught about humility in their churches.
So how does a Christian businesswoman market herself successfully, while still staying in integrity with her Christian values?
Throughout all the years as a businesswoman, my “Big Why” is what has helped me more than anything to overcome shyness and fear of rejection and to get out there to be seen.
It has taken my eyes off myself and focused on the lives I can impact with what the Lord has put in my heart to do. This may be scary sometimes, because God is a big thinker, and the vision He puts in our hearts can be overwhelming, yes, even impossible.
But, at the same time, it’s a relief, because right from the get-go you can give up at trying to achieve it by yourself. Instead of carrying that burden of your marketing goals around with you and getting overwhelmed by the sheer thought of achieving them, you can choose to rest in God’s grace and let Him do the job.
Does that mean you don’t work on your project? By no means! Of course you will do what it takes, but without worry and stress, trusting in God’s divine provision for everything you need to accomplish.
That includes your efforts to become visible. Believe me, it is much easier to pick up that phone when you know God‘s favor is on your life and that He Himself is backing you up and opening doors no man can shut!
This is a verse He gave me the day He announced my calling to the business world to me:
“I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name.” – Revelation 3:8
Take a moment to write down what your “Big Why” is.
• WHY am I doing what I’m doing?
• Why is this important to me?
Write down whatever comes to your mind. Don’t worry if it does not come out in the right words. Just brainstorm whatever comes to you. Then you can still polish it up as God gives you new revelations about His purpose for your life and business.
Once you have your “Big Why”, you will understand why becoming visible is so important to achieve that goal!
