Have you ever made a stupid decision that messed up your business or your life?
Or even another person’s life?
I have. More than I would like to think of.
Under those circumstances it is only natural to feel unworthy and undeserving of anybody’s love, not even of your own appreciation for yourself.
“I made my bed and now I have to lay in it.”
Isn’t that the way we have been almost too cruel with ourselves—and even with others?
It never ceases to astonish me that God does not deal with us that way. He does not give us what we deserve, He gives us what we— much too often—DON’T deserve: His mercy and His unconditional love.
You see, we were not designed to live with feelings of guilt and shame. He never intended for us to feel that way about ourselves–or about others.
This weekend we are celebrating Jesus’ victory over sin and death. He paid the debt for every wrong decision you have made or will ever make in your life.
I want to invite you today to fully accept that gift.
To stop feeling bad about yourself for things that you have done in the past. God does not remember them, so why should you?
He makes all things new, every day.
Is that fair? No. But the Gospel is not fair. Jesus paid for ALL of our debt, although He did not deserve it, so we don’t have to pay for our bad, even though we deserve to.
This Easter receive His mercy and decide to bask in His exuberant love and unmerited favor. He passionately longs to be gracious to you!
Love yourself. Forgive yourself. Your slate is clean.
And rejoice in the greatest gift of love ever given to humankind.
